My passion -- preserving history
Though my career was in another field, my passion has always been U.S. History -- particularly the 19th Century. Since retiring I have found enjoyment in preserving history by transcribing old letters or diaries and sharing them on the internet for those who are gathering family history or simply seeking information from primary sources for other research purposes. For several years I have transcribed antebellum and Civil War letters for an acquaintance who trades on e-bay with his permission to publish the letters on one of several blogsites I manage under the general heading of Spared & Shared. Correspondence connected with these sites has resulted in several requests to provide this service to others who have discovered letters or diaries among their valued family heirlooms. Years of performing the daunting and sometimes difficult task of deciphering old letters combined with my extensive knowledge of U.S. History has enabled me to create web-based pages or e-books and thus preserve history.
If you have letters, journals, or diaries that you would like transcribed and made available to others, please contact me.
Thanks! -- Griff
